Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze certificate for Thermobel insulating glass

AGC Glass Europe continues to fulfil its commitments aimed at continuously improving environmental performance. As the first and only glass manufacturer in the world to receive Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze for its Thermobel and iplus/ipasol insulating glass, AGC is offering today the widest portfolio of Silver and Bronze certified products.

A world first: Thermobel and iplus/ipasol insulating glass became Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze certified!

The Thermobel and iplus/ipasol lines are more clear evidence of AGC's excellent expertise in the insulating glass production. Today these products are being increasingly implemented in residential and commercial buildings. Obtaining the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze certification for these two lines of glass is a logical extension of AGC's sustainable environmental vision.

As part of the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Program, an ecological assessment of products is performed over their whole life cycle. Obtaining this certificate requires that products meet strict criteria in five categories related to health and environmental protection.

The AGC Thermobel and iplus/ipasol glass lines received points in the overall rating corresponding to the Bronze category, however, in two categories they achieved the Silver rating (Material Re-use and Good Water Management) and in one category even the Gold rating (Social Responsibility).

When using Thermobel or iplus/ipasol Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze certified glass, architects and designers can provide a sustainability guarantee for their projects to achieve higher ratings in environmental certification programs for buildings such as LEED.

A long process with a successful result

Obtaining the Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification for insulating glass involves a much larger number of people than other glass products, because the evaluation includes all components that insulating double or triple glazing contains, such as frames, adhesives etc.

AGC is the first glass manufacturer to complete this process together with its twelve suppliers and 40 AGC plants actively involved in the production process.

Each supplier was asked to provide detailed information on the chemical composition of the materials used in the manufacture of Thermobel and iplus/ipasol insulating glass, which guarantees the sustainability of the final product required by the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Program certification process.

This newly acquired certificate is the next stage in fulfilling AGC's environmental and sustainability commitments.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a certification label awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
